AAP vs Express Pass

How does the AAP work and how is it different from the Express Pass?

For my Disney Clients, you are all familiar with the DAS or Disability Assistance Pass. Universal has a similar pass and call theirs the AAP or Attraction Assistance Pass.

Let me start out by saying this is NOT in any way shape or form a guide on how to ‘scam the system’ or ‘get over’!  This is intended as an overview for those clients who truly need the AAP.  If this is you, and you have more questions after reading this, please schedule a call and we can go over how I can help you with planning your trip.  As most of you know, my specialty is Special Needs Travel.

As with Disney, there is an approval process that I will be glad to go over with my special needs clients that have planned a trip with me.  But for now it is similar to the old way Disney did it.
They issue a paper card, which you take to the entrance of the ride or attraction that you wish to ride and they will issue you a return time based on the current wait time.  You are then free to go and ride something with a lower wait time or go see a show, or even have a snack while you wait for your appointed time to go back.
Just like Disney, you don’t have to be exact with your return time, as long as you use it before the close of the day.  And the other important thing to remember is that you can only have one AAP reservation at a time.  So if you get another return time the previous one is void.

When you return, you show your card at the entrance to the Express Pass Line and you enter.   Your card will be scanned at each scan point for the Express Pass.
Now for the down side of the AAP - as you saw in my last sentence, you return to ride in the Express Pass Line. Generally, the Express Pass line is way less than half the time of the regular stand by line.  SO if you wanted to ride something that had an hour wait, you would get a return time of an hour, then you would enter the Express Pass line and wait up to another half an hour.  Where if you had an Express Pass you would have already ridden it and been on to your next ride.
Where this comes in handy is for rides that do not yet have an Express Pass Line or in the case of avoiding stairs.

Now, having said that, I hope you can see yet another reason I say that the Express Pass is the ONLY way to tour Universal!  Yes, in our party we have at least one person who qualifies for an AAP and we always get it.  But other than for avoiding stairs, we rarely use it; and use the Express Pass instead.

Contact me at this link and we will schedule a time to talk about your next Universal trip!
