Traveling with a special needs child to Universal Orlando requires careful planning and preparation. To make sure you have a smooth and stress free vacation, here is a list of last-minute items to make sure you bring: 1- Medications: Bring all necessary medications for the entire duration of the trip, as well as extra medication in case of unexpected delays. It's also a good idea to bring a copy of the child's prescription in case they need a refill while on trip. (Personal Tip - I always make sure that if I don't use a 'chain pharmacy', that my local pharmacist has the phone number to a pharmacy local to Universal where they can communicate in case of needing additional medication) 2-Medical Devices: If the special Needs Child requires any specific medical devices, such as wheelchair or mobility aid, don't forget to bring them along. You may want to bring extra batteries or chargers for these devices if needed. (Personal Tip - we usually rent a wheel chair or larger stroller to use 'as wheelchair' or a scooter. Less things to worry about packing. So, make sure you bring the confirmations on these if you go this route.) 3- Comfort Items: Bring any items that will make the child feel more comfortable and at ease, such as a favorite stuffed animal, blanket, or music player. (Personal Tip - for something that is irreplaceable, make sure you have your phone number on it somewhere in case it gets lost!) 4- Universal Orlando Ticket and Reservation Confirmations: Make sure to bring all confirmation emails, including any reservations you may have for dining or special events. (Personal Tip - I always have a folder on my phone for these confirmations in case the printed ones get lost. Also remember, as your personal Travel agent, I will have a copy of these items as well and can send them via a pdf if you lose your copy) 5-Sunglasses and Sunscreen: Florida can be very sunny, so bring sunglasses and sunscreen to protect against the sun's harmful rays. (Personal Tip - NEVER wait until you get to the resort to purchase! You will pay an arm and a leg plus some! But I do always let the kids pick out their new sunglasses. Makes it more fun!) 6-Appropriate Clothing and Footwear: Prepare for both the weather and LOTS of walking! (Personal Tip - No matter what the weather man says, always plan for some rain and chilly nights! It can be upper 90's during the day, but those restaurants are Freezing at dinner time!) 7-Snacks and Beverages: Bring snacks and drinks for the trip, especially if the child has dietary restrictions or favorite snacks. (Personal Tip - I also urge you to bring at least one water bottle per person! You will not believe how easily you can get dehydrated!) 8-Entertainment: Bring books, games, or other forms of entertainment that the child enjoys to help pass the time during travel or while waiting in line. (Personal Tip - We have found noise cancelling headphone to be invaluable during those times! As he has gotten older, it helps to protect us from the music he now likes to hear as well!) 9-Personal Identification: Bring your personal Identification documents for everyone in the traveling party. (Personal Tip - While this may seem to be a no brainer for those who are flying, remember to also bring them when driving. even for the non drivers, as well as medical insurance cards. Always better safe than sorry) 10-Cash and Credit Cards: Bring cash and credit cards for any additional expenses that may arise on the trip such as souvenirs, tips, meals, and snacks (Personal Tip - We ALWAYS bring more than we think we will need. Any leftover is put back into the vacation fund!) So, there you have it, A quick list of some essential items your family should remember to bring to ensure that your trip to Universal Orlando is enjoyable and somewhat stress free, with your special needs child taken into consideration!
