When it comes to a vacation, there are two types of packers. Those that start packing six weeks in advance. And those who start packing five minutes before it's time to go. And they are always married to each other! I make packing lists for everyone in the family at least six weeks out. I make sure to include anything that may be specific to them like my son's head phones, and his hoodie. I always add things like a light jacket incase it turns cold or chilly. I add swimwear, even if it is January (because we have swam in January when there was an ice storm here in Georgia!) I also make lists for things that are basically for the whole family. Things like coffee pods and fixings; I note if there is a Keurig in the room or if I need to pack our own; I make sure there are mugs, spoons, our favorite creamers, and Splenda; I make sure we have enough bottled water to make coffee in the mornings; I make sure we have snacks for in the car as well as in the room; I make sure we have drinks to go go with said snacks. I also make sure there are enough charger cords for everyone's device (even though they say they have packed them!) I make sure we have air freshener because, well just because. I cut the number of ponchos we have vs the # of days we are there and the weather forecast says it 'might' rain, I even make sure that no one forgets the fact that they need clean clothes to wear on the trip home (something my guys seem to don't feel as important as me!) My son and husband pack like this : For instance we leave in 10 days to go to Universal. They will share a suitcase and it has been sitting in the guest room (now called packing central) for quite a while now. They occasionally remember after they have worn their favorite Universal shirt to throw it in the suitcase, only to grab it the net time they want to wear it again. Same goes for shorts swimwear and everything else. My husband has been saying for the past two months he needs to get a new pair of shoes to wear to Universal. If he remembers, he will go Saturday to get them, if not it will be the following Saturday (which is the day we pack the truck). (Don't worry, I always pack extra bandaids for just these types of emergencies!) I just did a check of shirts and they each have two shirts in the suitcase. Of course there are two more shirts with tags still on them that don't fit either of them, (not really sure what they think is going on with that!). There are a total of two pairs of shorts, again not sure who they are supposed to belong to, and a whole bunch of underwear that are too small for either of them. Let's talk electronics for just a minute. I have a packing cube just for chargers, cords, and blocks. Because you never know what the room you get might have. I buy new ones each trip, because somehow, both guys will pack their phone or whatever in an outside pocket of the suitcase, and then decide to ouse one of my cords in the electronics bag on the trip. Only to claim it as theirs all along! The one in the pocket of the suitcase always seems to disappear! Medicine is very similar. I put all my nighttime meds in a zippered plastic bag, my morning meds in another zippered plastic bag and then my sons meds in a zippered plastic bag and put all of them in a packing cube. (Husband don't want to put his in there because... well I have no idea why! This bag is one of the last things to go in my bag before going in the truck. However our morning meds are placed on the counter in a small dish. My son and I have a separate dish. I have my diabetes travel test kit there as well, So before we leave, we take our med, I test my glucose and the travel test kit goes in my purse like it always does while my regular one is packed away . This means we always have one bag sitting by the front door where all the things my husband has forgotten to pack goes into, cords, shoes, clothes, meds, anything that is a last minute thought to him. When we had a van, packing it was like a game of Rubik's cube! now we have a truck and packing I easy, unpacking is the problem! things slide to the front of the bed (than goodness it is a short bed, and my son has to crawl up to get those items that have slid forward (because thank goodness it has a hard cover on the bed!). But oddly enough, the things that slide forward always seem to be those last minute things he take out! So, Im sitting her with 10 days to go and feeling a little stressed because I am 2 days behind on my packing, but overall in a good spot with the packing and my husband is not the least bit stressed! So, what is your packing style?
