Top 5 Must Rides at Universal Orlando

2/24/2023

Let’s end out the month with my Top five Must Rides at Universal Orlando!

(Disclaimer, this list was compiled by my thrill junkie special needs son.  Although I do agree with three of his five choices!)

Our #5 Top Must Ride at Universal Orlando is Hulk.

In full transparency, I have not ridden  this one.  It has two strikes against it for me.  It is not as smooth as I would like and it has a full restraint system that kicks my claustrophobia into high gear!

But the boy (and all of his friends ) LOVE it!  It launches you out of a tube at a gazillion miles an hour (maybe NOT quite that fast, but it looks like it)  and takes you on a high adrenalin rush with inversions and loops.    It is not for the faint of heart (translation, us old folks!) but a definite MUST ride for the teens.
Our #4 Top Must Ride at Universal Orlando is Forbidden Journey

This is the first one on our list for the Harry Potter fans (and we are ALL Harry Potter fans when we are at Universal!).  It takes place inside Hogwart's Castle, and the queue line alone is worth the wait!   And, before you ask, yes you can walk through the Queue just to look at the rooms of the castle and skip the ride if you want, but why would you?

On the ride, you zip along with Harry and his friends soaring above the castle grounds.  Visiting the Quidditch pitch, encountering a dragon and some dementors, it is a dark motion ride that may be too intense for some riders.

Our #3 Top Must Ride at Universal Orlando is Revenge of the Mummy

The Mummy, as it is known by in our house, is an indoor roller coaster.  Now, the first (and only) time I rode it I did not know it was a roller coaster!  How on earth I missed all those warnings I have no idea!  But that was enough to make me hate it!

Truthfully, I love roller Coasters, so I'm sure if I gave it another chance I would probably love it.  I was totally not prepared for the ending, and I think that alone is what has colored my opinion of it! And since THAT is the only thing I can remember from it I will copy what Universal has to say about it!

Digging your nails into the safety rail, you'll hold on tight as you rush forwards and back on the track, fleeing from the evil Mummy Imhotep. Just as it seems you might've escaped, you'll plunge straight down into a pitch-black abyss with no end in sight. Will you ever see daylight again? Or will you remain sealed inside this tomb forever?"

Again, not for the young ones!

Our #2 Top Must Ride at Universal Orlando is Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Here is our second ride for Harry Potter Fans!  For a long time, this was my #1 favorite ride of all time!  It has only recently been unseated, and by another ride in the same park!  This one is truly a different ride in the daylight than it is in the dark.  So if you can, I suggest riding at least twice!

You can choose to either ride in the sidecar or as the driver on the motorbike.  For someone like me with balance issues, I suggest the sidecar.  It is a fast moving roller coaster with a very immersive tale that goes with it, making it not only adrenelin pumping, but a visual treat as well!  A few surprises along the way make it an experience you will not forget!
(Side note - it is always fun to ride with there is someone who hasn't rode before when the 'surprise' happens!)

Our #1 Top MUST Ride at Universal Orlando is VelociCoaster

Drumroll please!  As if anyone didn't already know - Our #1 MUST ride at Universal Orlando is VelociCoaster!

Yes, there is a story that goes with it.  Do I know what it is?  No.   Have I seen any of the Jurassic movies?  No. Did I think I was going to die the first time I rode it?  Yes. Did I have my eyes closed the first five or six times I rode it?  Yes.  Does that make me like it any less?  No.
So, there you have it.  Our top five MUST Rides at Universal Orlando.  It was very hard to narrow it down to only five.  I thought it was amazing that with the exception of two, I agreed to the majority of them with my thrill junkie son!  This list is by no means exhaustive, and is exclusive to my thrill junkie son!
